Whistleblower Suit Nets $1.8 Million Settlement

According to federal sources, a Mississippi medical equipment company has settled a 2009 whistleblower lawsuit filed in Birmingham for nearly $1.8 million.  The suit claims that the company bilked government insurance groups out of money for delivery of diabetic supplies to patients.  The company, Pinnacle Medical Solutions, has agreed to settle the False Claims Act lawsuit brought by two former employees including Wendy Horne, a former reimbursement specialist for that company.  According to the lawsuit, soon after Horne was hired in 2007 she reported to Pinnacle management that there were fraudulent practices in the company’s handling of insurance reimbursement and she suggested they repay the money, but her requests were ignored by Pinnacle management.
